Hongkongers do more exercise than other people, study says
International study attributes difference in part to city’s safe streets

Hong Kong’s safe streets and good public transport mean locals do 18 per cent more physical activity than other nationals, a study has revealed.
The study, co-authored by the University of Hong Kong, showed Hongkongers on average did 44 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise per day, most of which was accumulated through walking from place to place.
The average of all participants was 37 minutes.

Visiting professor Ester Cerin of HKU’s School of Public Health said high residential density and easy access to public transport in the city helped locals be more active.
“Hong Kong also has relatively good pedestrian infrastructure that promotes walking. Safety from crime is another important factor,” said Cerin.
