A man whose left arm was impaled by an iron bar had to wait more than 30 hours for surgery at Tuen Mun Hospital to remove the object.

The Hospital Authority said the hospital had attended to more urgent cases first as his condition was “stable”.

While working last Friday afternoon, the renovation worker, 58, lost his balance, resulting in an arrow-shaped iron bar piercing his left arm, according to Apple Daily.

He broke the iron bar while struggling, leaving a two-inch fragment in his arm, the newspaper added.

Though the worker arrived at the hospital on Friday evening, it was the wee hours of Sunday by the time he underwent surgery.
