Young Hong Kong trekker suffers serious injuries after falling while climbing treacherous stream
Rescuers airlift victim from remote Lantau stream to Tuen Mun Hospital

A young trekker climbing a treacherous stream on Lantau was airlifted to hospital for emergency treatment after he fell some 10 metres into a remote valley on Sunday afternoon.
The man, aged 27, was a member of an eight-member stream-climbing group. They wanted to conquer Wong Lung Hang – or Yellow Dragon River – a valley with sheer waterfalls some 2.5km from Tung Chung new town.
The accident took place shortly after 2pm when the group was climbing up the stream. “The man tripped over a rock and fell some 10 metres down a valley. He reportedly remained conscious,” a police spokesman said.
Rescuers combed the area and found the man about an hour later. He was airlifted by a Government Flying Service helicopter to Tuen Mun Hospital with head and neck injuries.
Wong Lung Hang collects water from more than 20 tributaries from the uplands of Lin Fa Shan, Sunset Peak and Yi Tung Shan. After heavy rain, muddy water gushes down the narrow valley like a dragon into Tung Chung Bay, hence its Chinese name.
