The Taiwanese tourist who was left fighting for her life after a firebomb attack on a local train about two weeks ago has shown progress in her recovery and was yesterday transferred back to the island.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the city said yesterday that the condition of 38-year-old Chang Hsin-ru had been stabilising after treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“Even though the treatments of (Chang’s) burn injuries in Hong Kong have come to an end, she still has a long road ahead of her once back in Taiwan to continue with the treatments,” director Lee Chin-mei of the office’s general affairs division said.

It remained unclear how long it would take for Chang to recover fully, the office quoted Chang’s family members as saying at the hospital yesterday.
