Afternoon kindergarten classes resume as Tropical Storm Son-Tinh moves away from Hong Kong
Showers and isolated thunderstorms expected on Wednesday, with sunny interludes
The skies over Hong Kong remained cloudy on Wednesday morning, with isolated thunderstorms expected despite all storm alerts being cancelled.
The strong wind signal was lowered at 9.40am as Tropical Storm Son-Tinh moved away from the city.
Afternoon kindergarten classes would resume, the Education Bureau announced. Earlier lessons had been suspended because of the typhoon signal No 3, which had been issued at 4.20pm on Tuesday.
At 10am on Wednesday, Son-Tinh was about 680km southwest of the city, the Hong Kong Observatory said. The tropical storm was forecast to move west at about 30km/h across Hainan Island and Beibu Wan.
The weather authority added that a tropical cyclone appeared to be forming as an area of low pressure to the east of the Philippines intensified.
Wednesday’s weather is expected to be mainly cloudy with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms, and sunny intervals in the afternoon.
Sunny periods and a few showers are expected over the next couple of days, the Observatory said.
