Temperature to plunge to 17 degrees Celsius in Hong Kong on Friday, with even colder days ahead next week

  • Showers also likely early next week as cold front moves across Guangdong coast

The temperature in Hong Kong is expected to drop to 17 degrees Celsius on Friday evening, with even colder days ahead early next week.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the mercury is likely to fall progressively from about 22 degrees to about 17 degrees at night. The weather will be cloudy with a few rainy patches.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 15 to 18 degrees on Saturday; 13 to 16 degrees on Sunday; and 12 to 16 degrees on Monday. The cold weather might also come with showers early next week.

The forecaster said a cold front was moving across the coast of Guangdong province, and under the influence of the associated northeast monsoon, temperatures in many parts of the city on Friday morning were two to three degrees lower than on the previous day.

It predicted that the intense monsoon would persist over coastal areas in the following few days, but the weather would get warmer later next week. Temperatures are expected to rise to 16 to 20 degrees next Saturday.

The Observatory reminded members of the public to take precautions against the coming cold weather, especially senior citizens and people with chronic medical conditions.
