Hongkongers will need to break out the scarves and hats if they head out to celebrate the new year on Monday night, with a cold and windy few days on the way, according to forecasters.

New Year’s Eve was set to be as cold as 11 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 15 degrees, according to the Observatory.

Cloudy skies were forecast for Friday night, along with a cold turn on Saturday, when temperatures will range from 12 to 16 degrees in urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. Forecasters said there would be bright periods and moderate north-to-northeasterly winds, which would be occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.

And the cold weather was set to persist, with strong winds over the weekend and a few rainy patches from Monday to Wednesday, the Observatory said.
