The Hong Kong Observatory cancelled its typhoon signal No 1 on Wednesday evening, but an amber rainstorm warning remained in effect.
The typhoon warning ended at 6.20pm, after being in force for 14 hours, as Tropical Storm Lupit edged away from the city.
The amber rainstorm warning, issued at 5.10pm, indicates that heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall at a rate exceeding 30mm per hour, and is likely to continue.
“Although Lupit is moving away from Hong Kong, its associated showers and squalls will affect the coast of Guangdong occasionally overnight,” the Observatory said.
It added that following the departure of Lupit, the southwest monsoon would bring sporadic winds and occasional heavy showers to Hong Kong over the next couple of days.
