One woman died and three men were seriously injured after falling into an eight-metre-deep manhole at a sewage treatment plant in Hong Kong on Thursday.

According to a police spokesman, officers were called at around 4pm after reports of a worker in the manhole at the entrance to the Lantau Island facility feeling dizzy.

Firefighters arrived at the scene 11 minutes after receiving a report at 4.05pm and found four workers in the manhole, Fire Services Department acting assistant divisional officer Chung Tao-fung said on Thursday night.
