Coronavirus Hong Kong: city records 3,138 infections, 90 deaths in 11th day of declining cases
- Dr Albert Au from Centre for Health Protection says authorities detected fewer infections in buildings subject to lockdowns
- Death toll reported on Monday lowest since February 26, when 88 deaths were recorded

Hong Kong continued its downward trend in Covid-19 numbers, reporting over 3,100 cases on Monday, as officials noted a drop in deaths and new infections identified during overnight lockdowns and through mandatory testing.
Health authorities confirmed 3,138 infections and 90 Covid-related fatalities on Monday, marking the eleventh straight day that the daily number of cases dropped. The overall tally of infections since the pandemic began currently stands at 1,174,560, with 8,262 related deaths.
Dr Albert Au Ka-wing of the Centre for Health Protection said cases were on a downtrend as authorities had detected fewer infections in buildings subject to lockdowns.
“Recently, the number and percentage of positive cases detected have been declining [through these operations]. Three weeks ago, the figure was over 10 per cent, but in the past week or so, positive cases were around two to three per cent,” Au said.

“There has been a significant drop in cases and this is in line with the downward trend of the pandemic.”
Hospital Authority Chief Manager Dr Lau Ka-hin said a decrease in Covid-19-related deaths could be attributed to the drop in infections, which had a direct bearing on the number of critical and serious cases in the city. The death toll reported on Monday was the lowest since February 26, when 88 deaths were recorded.
