Hong Kong braces for cooler weather as temperatures set to drop to 14 degrees Celsius
- Impending cool period largely due to intense northeast monsoon, according to Observatory
- Weather expected to turn more miserable, remaining cloudy with occasional rain until weekend

Temperatures in Hong Kong are expected to fall as low as 14 degrees Celsius (57.2 Fahrenheit) next week as autumn winds down on the back of a summer that broke heat records.
The Observatory on Wednesday said the mercury would begin to drop from November 30, with the minimum temperature falling to 17 degrees, down from a predicted high of 28 degrees the day before.
It will turn cooler on December 1, with temperatures ranging from 16 to 19 degrees, with the weather to stay cloudy and cool in the morning. The minimum and maximum temperatures will further fall to 14 degrees and 18 degrees respectively on December 2.

“[Next week’s] cooler weather does not come exceptionally early or late,” Observatory scientific officer Jennifer Yip Ling said. “In general, Hong Kong starts entering the winter time in December. This time, the cooler weather is largely due to an intense northeast monsoon.”
The nine-day forecast issued by the Observatory on Wednesday predicted the strong northeast monsoon would continue to affect the coast of Guangdong province on Thursday, while upper-air disturbances currently affecting the region would depart in several days’ time.
