Hong Kong Observatory issues amber rainstorm warning but cancels it exactly 1 hour later
- Observatory says Hong Kong will see cooler and windier weather over the next few days due to northeast monsoon
- Temperatures will range from 21 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees

The Hong Kong Observatory issued an amber rainstorm warning on Monday afternoon but cancelled it exactly one hour later, although it said a northeast monsoon would continue to bring cool and windy conditions to the region.
“A region of thunderstorm activity is crossing the Pearl River estuary,” the forecaster said on Facebook shortly after it issued the warning at 4.15pm. “It is expected there will be heavy rain in Hong Kong in the next two to three hours. There will be a few gusts of wind and thunderstorms.”
A radar image showed that rain clouds had moved from west to east since noon, with some areas experiencing 30mm of precipitation.
The forecaster also warned of flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas and said that people likely to be affected had to take necessary precautions to reduce their exposure to the risk.
An amber rainstorm signal means heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30mm in an hour, and is likely to continue.
The amber warning was cancelled at 5.15pm.
