The Hong Kong Observatory expects occasional showers and squally thunderstorms in the coming days after heavy downpours lashed the city on Thursday afternoon, triggering an amber rainstorm warning.

The forecaster said conditions would worsen again on Friday and Saturday, before the weather gradually cleared up next week.

The amber rainstorm warning was cancelled at 3.45pm on Thursday, after being in effect for more than 2½ hours.

Showers began to subside as evening approached, although residents were still using umbrellas to protect themselves against the last of the rain.
