Hongkongers should brace for cold weather with temperatures forecast to drop to as low as nine degrees Celsius with icing conditions expected under the influence of a northeast monsoon.
The Observatory forecast a minimum temperature of around nine degrees in urban areas on Friday night and Saturday, with the mercury set to fall a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories.
The maximum temperature on Friday was 16 degrees, with highs of 14 degrees expected on Saturday.
Temperatures would be significantly lower on high ground, and there could be icing conditions, the forecaster warned.
It urged members of the public, motorists and cyclists to be aware of slippery roads.
“Under the influence of the northeast monsoon and a broad band of rain and clouds, the weather is cold over the coastal areas of Guangdong,” the Observatory said.
