Hong Kong raised a “very hot weather” warning on Wednesday, as parts of the New Territories were expected to swelter in temperatures of more than 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) this week.

The weather forecaster issued the alert at 6.45am, citing the impact of prolonged heat and predicting the mercury would reach 34 degrees or higher during the day.

“[It will be] very hot during the day with a maximum temperature of around 34 degrees in the urban areas and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories,” a spokesman for the Hong Kong Observatory said.

The Observatory added that a subtropical ridge was bringing fine weather to southeastern China. The city was expected to see sunny periods and some showers on Wednesday.
