Hongkongers should brace for days of unsettled weather brought by a broad trough of low pressure, the forecaster said on Tuesday, as the city was hit with violent gusts and thunderstorms.

The mercury is also expected to climb to as high as 33 degrees Celsius (91.4 Fahrenheit) in Hong Kong in the latter part of this week with few showers, as the subtropical ridge strengthens gradually, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.

The forecaster on Tuesday morning urged residents to seek safe shelter immediately if they were staying outdoors and be aware of weather changes.
