Hong Kong experienced heavy and widespread rains on Thursday morning, prompting the weather forecaster to keep an amber rainstorm signal in place for an hour.

The Hong Kong Observatory issued the warning at 11.40am and expected the rainfall would exceed 30mm in an hour and that it was likely to continue. It also warned of flash flooding.

It was cancelled at 12.40pm.
