Hong Kong cancels T1 typhoon alert, issues strong monsoon signal
Tropical depression over the central and northern parts of the South China Sea is gradually departing from Hong Kong, forecaster says

The Hong Kong Observatory cancelled the No 1 typhoon warning at 6.10pm on Friday and issued the strong monsoon signal shortly afterwards.
The weather forecaster said that a tropical depression over the central and northern parts of the South China Sea was gradually departing from Hong Kong and moving towards the seas south of Hainan Island to the vicinity of central and northern Vietnam.
It said the local weather was being dominated by a ridge of high pressure over the coast of southeastern China.
“Under the influence of the ridge of high pressure, local winds are still expected to be occasionally strong over parts of the territory on [Friday night] and at first [on Saturday],” it said.
As for next week, there will be showers over the coast of Guangdong under the influence of an upper-air disturbance.
