A Hong Kong medical school has pledged to strengthen measures to uphold professional conduct after an exchange student was found to have posted a photo on social media taken inside an operating theatre, with the hospital involved slamming the “inappropriate” behaviour.

The remarks on Saturday by the faculty of medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) came after internet users widely circulated a post on the Chinese social media platform RedNote.

The RedNote account holder claimed to have completed a six-week internship at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin and uploaded several photos.

One image partially showed people dressed in surgical gowns and some equipment, along with a caption in Chinese that said: “Surgery in progress. Can only photograph the floor.”

Other photos showed a staff card and colleagues.

The university confirmed that the exchange student had completed a short-term programme and had already left the faculty and Prince of Wales, a teaching hospital for CUHK.
