Airport check-in services at Kowloon MTR station slowly resume after computer glitch

Nine of 69 airlines back to normal operation after system suspended nine hours

Downtown airport check-in services at Kowloon MTR station gradually resumed on Tuesday afternoon after a computer system malfunction led to an eight-hour suspension.

An MTR spokeswoman announced at about 8.30am baggage check-in services from the station were unavailable until further notice.

As of 4.30pm, she said check-in services would gradually resume for nine out of 69 airlines.

“The Airport Authority contractor has notified us that part of the maintenance work has been completed for individual airlines,” an MTR spokeswoman said.

Earlier in the day, the railway operator said check-in services had been suspended due to a glitch in the Airport Authority’s computer check-in systems.

“Prior to the commencement of services at Kowloon station this morning, staff at the check-in counters notified the station that the computer systems were not operating as usual, and check-in services have been affected as a result,” the spokeswoman said.

“The MTR immediately contacted the contractor of the Airport Authority’s system services to handle the incident. Repairs are under way.”

An Airport Authority spokesman confirmed the incident and said outbound passengers could still check in at Hong Kong station along the Airport Express line or directly at Hong Kong International Airport.
