The Hong Kong Book Fair will finally return to the city on July 14 albeit with social-distancing rules in place, but some exhibitors do not expect any new political books on the shelves in the current climate.
The Trade Development Council (TDC), which organises Asia’s largest fair of its kind, said the seven-day event would be held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai on a slightly smaller scale than in 2019, with about 670 exhibitors this year compared with 686 previously.
It will be the first book fair since the national security law took effect in June last year.

Peter Lam Kin-ngok, the council chairman, said on Friday the fair was likely to be the largest face-to-face event at the exhibition centre so far this year in terms of attendants.
“We hope to see the traffic return to 60-70 per cent of the level in 2019,” he said.

The event, which has been repeatedly postponed since July last year because of the coronavirus pandemic, attracted nearly 1 million people in 2019.
