60 per cent of residents in favour of massive Hong Kong reclamation project, authorities say, but concern groups question consultation conclusions
- Government says it received 7,800 responses via various channels, including exhibitions, online forms and emails, with close to 60 per cent expressing support

Nearly 60 per cent of Hong Kong residents have expressed support for a massive reclamation project off Lantau Island, development authorities said as they wrapped up a three-month public consultation on the controversial scheme on Thursday.
But some concern groups questioned the conclusions reached in the exercise, which were hailed by the development chief, and pointed to starkly contrasting findings of a survey commissioned by a leading environmental organisation last month.
It is also envisioned to become the city’s third biggest core business district and alleviate the acute shortage of land.

“Instead of going on discussing whether we should do it, we should now gather ideas on how to do it well,” Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho said on Thursday.
