Hong Kong authorities create HK$2 million online platform to remotely monitor public housing projects in real time
- Online platform will help Housing Department staff to keep an eye on construction projects to avoid delays and ease staffing crunch, deputy director says
- System can monitor site safety in real-time while listing project information including construction progress, financial status and accident situation

Hong Kong’s Housing Department has invested at least HK$2 million to create an online platform to help avoid delays in construction projects and ease a labour crunch.
“As we have to produce a huge amount of public flats, many projects have insufficient manpower to deal with planning and construction,” Leung said.
“The system allows us to handle more things with limited manpower. It is a worthy investment.”

The government has identified sufficient land for producing 360,000 public housing flats in the coming decade, with two-thirds of them being delivered in the latter five years.
The department said the system could monitor site safety in real-time while listing project information including construction progress, financial status and the accident situation to keep an eye on possible delays and problems.
