Hongkong Post keeping US parcel service suspension in place despite tariff deal
Government-owned postal service provider says it will not collect any tariffs on behalf of the US

Hongkong Post has been in contact with its US counterparts to clarify the latest tariff arrangements on small parcels and will continue to suspend its service to the United States, the Post has learned.
In response to the Post’s inquiries, the government-owned postal service provider said on Wednesday that it would not collect any tariffs on behalf of the US and that the parcels suspension which had been in place since April would remain.
Following a breakthrough in talks over the weekend, both China and the US pledged to remove 91 percentage points of April tariffs and suspend a further 24 percentage points for the next 90 days, leaving 10 percentage points of the duties in place, effective Wednesday.
But a 20 per cent tariff on Chinese goods imposed by the US before April, which Washington said was intended to halt the flow of the illegal drug fentanyl, remains in effect.
Industry veterans shared their export forecasts on Wednesday, which also marked the start of a new 54 per cent duty on small packages priced up to US$800. It was previously raised from 30 to 90 per cent, and then to 120 per cent.
