Tourists, locals, flock to Attack on Titan Japanese manga exhibition on Day 1
‘Attack on Titan Exhibition FINAL ver. Hong Kong’ features more than 200 replicas, animations, and interviews with creator Hajime Isayama
Mainland Chinese tourists and local residents have flocked to a Japanese manga exhibition in Hong Kong featuring a 6.2-metre-tall (20.3 feet) display, with fans splashing out on souvenirs exclusive to the city.
The “Attack on Titan Exhibition FINAL ver. Hong Kong” opened at The Twins shopping centre in Kai Tak on Tuesday, featuring more than 200 artwork replicas, animations, and interview clips with creator Hajime Isayama.
Attack on Titan has sold more than 140 million copies since it was first published in 2009 and has been adapted into live-action films, computer games, a stage musical and an animated television series.
The post-apocalyptic science fiction action story, which blends fantasy, horror, military adventure and coming-of-age drama, ran for more than 11 years before concluding in April 2021.
About 50 visitors arrived at the exhibition venue before it opened at 11am, with most having reserved a ticket with a designated time slot and some seeking admission upon arrival.
Among the first visitors was Connie Wu, a 23-year-old aviation professional from Shanghai, who changed her flight and extended her trip by a day so she could attend the exhibition. She spent about HK$2,000 (US$257) on souvenirs for herself and friends.
