Double-decker bus stolen and smashed into roundabout near Kwai Tsing Container Terminal
According to KMB, the stolen bus was parked at terminal in Lok Fu and was driven to the container terminals via Lung Cheung Road and Ching Cheung Road
A double-decker bus was stolen, rammed into a kerb and abandoned with a smashed windscreen in the early hours of Tuesday in Hong Kong.
According to KMB, the stolen bus had been parked at a terminal in Lok Fu. At around 2am, it was driven to the container terminals via Lung Cheung Road and Ching Cheung Road.
Records showed the bus was driven around the roundabout a couple of times before it stopped.
KMB said the crashed bus was smoking and firefighters had to cool the vehicle with water.
“Theft and driving without third-party insurance are criminal acts. The incident also posed a danger to other road users,” a KMB spokesman said.
The company said it would check security camera footage but would not say whether the damaged bus could be repaired.
A police source said the culprit was probably familiar with operating a bus.
“It was started with a hidden switch that does not require a key to access,” the source said, adding officers were not ruling out the act could have been committed by a bus enthusiast.
