Arson suspected after rubbish bin found in flames outside Hong Kong government headquarters

Signs of a flammable liquid discovered at scene; no injuries or arrests reported

A roadside rubbish bin outside the Hong Kong government headquarters was thought to have been torched on Tuesday, prompting a police investigation.

Emergency personnel were called in soon after 11.30am when a security guard, 63, found the bin in flames on the pavement outside the government offices on Harcourt Road in Admiralty. The fire was later extinguished.

A police spokesman said no casualties were reported and no evacuation was needed.

He added that the circumstances were suspicious as signs of a flammable solution were found at the scene.

Police are treating the case as arson. So far, no one has been arrested.
