Pins found on New World First Bus on Hong Kong Island, after another passenger injured by needle on KMB bus in Mong Kok
Two pins discovered on upper deck of New World First Bus Route 14 to Sai Wan Ho, as man earlier injured on KMB Route 905 double-decker in Mong Kok
The spate of needles on buses affected a second company for the first time on Friday evening, hours after a man was injured in a similar incident on a KMB vehicle.
A spokeswoman for New World First Bus said two pins were discovered on its Route 14 bus at around 7pm, when the vehicle reached its terminus at Grand Promenade in Sai Wan Ho. The driver, who was inspecting the bus, found the pins close to a headrest near the back of the vehicle on the upper deck. He reported the find to the police.
The spokeswoman said according to recent records, it was the first time pins had been found on a bus of New World First Bus.
No one was injured in the case, which was classified as criminal damage.
A KMB spokeswoman said the man’s left thigh was injured and a sewing needle was found.
The bus had surveillance cameras and the footage would be handed over to police, she said. “We will fully assist police in the investigation.”
The victim, 54, alerted the driver, who called police.
The man was taken to Kwong Wah Hospital in Yau Ma Tei. So far, no one has been arrested.
Man arrested over needles on Hong Kong buses refused bail
There have been at least 13 reports of needles found on KMB vehicles since June 27.
Two cases were reported last Friday, two days after police arrested Mok Cham-sum, 30, in connection with three previous reports.
Mok was charged with three counts of wounding and one count of attempted wounding, and appeared at Sha Tin Court last Saturday. He was remanded in custody, and the case was adjourned to next Tuesday.
The KMB spokeswoman appealed to the public to alert bus drivers and make a report to police if they encounter anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously on a bus.
She said the company had reminded frontline staff including bus drivers to step up checks of buses.
