Hong Kong man, 19, found with HK$2.7 million in suspected heroin near Sha Tin bus stop
Teen is arrested in anti-drugs sting code-named Thunderbolt 18
A 19-year-old Hong Kong man was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking on Saturday after he was found carrying suspected heroin worth HK$2.7 million (US$344,000).
The suspect, surnamed Leung, was intercepted by officers from the Narcotics Bureau near a bus station on Tai Chung Kiu Road in Sha Tin at about 1.30pm during a police anti-drugs operation.
Code-named Thunderbolt 18, the sting was carried out based on intelligence reports and investigations conducted by detectives.
About 3kg of suspected heroin worth an estimated HK$2.7 million was found in the man’s suitcase.
Senior inspector Yuen Ho-ting on Sunday said six packets of the substance, each weighing 500 grams, had been seized.

“We are now investigating the source and flow of the drug,” Yuen said.
The man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of trafficking in a dangerous drug. As of Sunday afternoon he was still being held for investigations.
Under Hong Kong’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug can lead to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of HK$5 million.
