New policeman, 23, shot in the leg while handling revolver in Hong Kong firearms training
Constable had only been with the force about four months before mishap at police training college lands him in hospital
A newly recruited officer was on Tuesday shot in the thigh while handling a revolver in firearms training at Hong Kong’s police training college.
The constable, 23, who joined the force only four months ago, was taken conscious to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam after the mishap.
The incident took place at an outdoor firing range on Ocean Park Road in Wong Chuk Hang shortly after 3.30pm, according to police.
“Initial information indicated the officer was either drawing the revolver from his holster or putting it back,” a police source said.
“One shot was fired and his right thigh was hit.”
The source said police were investigating whether the constable himself accidentally pulled the trigger or the handgun malfunctioned.

“We will also look into whether the constable followed safety procedures for handling the gun,” he said.
A police spokeswoman said officers were investigating.
