Hong Kong woman attacks husband with meat cleaver as row over affair turns bloody
Man suffered head injuries and is in critical condition, while both are under arrest for wounding each other
A dispute between a Hong Kong couple over an affair turned bloody when a woman attacked her husband with a meat cleaver, leaving him fighting for his life in hospital on Wednesday.
Emergency personnel were called in after the fight broke out in the pair’s flat in Hong Lok Mansion on Argyle Street, Mong Kok at about 7.30pm on Tuesday.
The man, 55, swung at his wife, 48, with a glass bottle after she accused him of having a mistress. The woman then attacked him with a meat cleaver, according to police.
A police spokesman said the couple’s 18-year-old son suffered light injuries when he tried to break up the fight.
The man had two cuts on his head and was taken unconscious to the ambulance.
As of Wednesday morning, he remained in critical condition at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei.
Police said the woman had arm and head injuries, while their son had scratches on his limbs. The two were treated at the nearby Kwong Wah Hospital.
Officers arrested the couple for wounding.
According to official statistics, police handled 439 reports of domestic violence in the first four months of the year, a 1.9 per cent rise compared with the figure for the same period last year.
