A citywide police search was under way for a razor-wielding male robber who held up a 21-year-old woman and stole her shoulder bag, which contained a mobile phone and HK$700 (US$90), at an underpass in northern Hong Kong in the early hours of Friday.

The robbery happened in an underpass outside Venice Garden in Sheung Shui, at the junction of Pak Wo Road and Po Wing Road, shortly before 3am.

“The robber threatened the victim with a razor and pushed her to the ground before fleeing with her shoulder bag carrying a HK$2,000 mobile phone, HK$700, some bank cards and her identity card,” a police spokesman said.

He said the perpetrator was last seen fleeing towards Ching Hiu Road.

The victim, who had a small cut on her hand, went to the nearby North District Hospital for medical treatment. Officers scouted the area but arrested no one.
