An elderly man is believed to have killed his ex-wife with a knife before leaping to his death from the roof of a Hong Kong office block on Wednesday.

Initial investigations showed the two had previously argued over money, and this could have sparked the fatal attack, according to law enforcement sources.

Police said the 68-year-old man, surnamed Che, was a security guard, while his former spouse, 64, was a cleaner. They worked in the same office block – Hua Qin International Building – on Queen's Road Central in Sheung Wan.

Initial information indicated the woman was cleaning one of the offices in the building at the time she was attacked.
