Senior Hong Kong prosecutor charged with indecent assault must report to police every month as part of bail conditions

A senior Hong Kong public prosecutor must report to police every month as part of his bail conditions after being charged with indecently assaulting three women at the Department of Justice.
On Wednesday, senior public prosecutor Vincent Wong Wing-sum, 49, made his first appearance at Eastern Court as a defendant, where he was charged with four counts of indecent assault.
Three women, identified in court only as X, Y, and Z, have claimed Wong assaulted them between December 2014, and April this year, at Queensway Government Offices in Admiralty.
The senior prosecutor was not required to enter a plea after his lawyer, Kevin Steel, requested more time to instruct counsel, receive and translate documents.
A clerk asked Wong if he understood the charges, to which the senior prosecutor replied: “I do.”
Prosecutor Juliana Chow Hoi-ling, an outside counsel who has been drafted in by the department for the case, said she anticipates making an application for special procedures for vulnerable witnesses, such as giving evidence via live television link.
The case has been adjourned until January 17, when Wong will be expected to enter a plea.
Principal Magistrate Peter Law Tak-chuen extended Wong’s HK$2,000 bail, with the condition he report to Mong Kok Police Station once every month, and refrain from contacting any prosecution witnesses.
Indecent assault is punishable by 10 years in jail.
