Body in bag suspect charged with Hong Kong murder after father’s corpse is pulled from sea off coast of Aberdeen

A 26-year-old man has been charged with murdering his 65-year-old father after police discovered the victim’s body stuffed in a bag and tossed into the sea.
Police arrested the man, who was not named, at Hong Kong International Airport on Thursday evening. He will appear in Eastern Court in Sai Wan Ho, on Monday.
The murder case came to light at about 8am on Thursday when a red, white and blue nylon travel bag was spotted floating in the waters near Wah Fu Estate in Aberdeen.
A witness who found the body, told police the victim’s head was sticking out of the bag at the time. An initial investigation found that the man, a cleaning worker surnamed Lai, had been repeatedly stabbed in the head and neck.
Firefighters retrieved the body, and found no identification document or personal belongings on the corpse, which was dressed in just trousers and socks.
Police said the travel bag was placed into a plastic box, before it was stuffed into a new suitcase. The suitcase was tossed into the sea 40km from where the victim was allegedly killed.
Officers escorted the hooded and handcuffed suspect to Po Tin Estate in Tuen Mun, where his father lived, for a crime reconstruction on Saturday. They stayed for about an hour.
According to official statistics, Hong Kong police handled 17 reports of murder in the first six months of this year, up 54.5 per cent compared with 11 cases in the same period last year.
