A 62-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman were found collapsed in their hotel room in Hong Kong on Thursday in a suspected suicide pact.

Police said it seemed the couple had been having an affair.

Emergency services rushed to The Charterhouse on Wan Chai Road at about 10.50am after a hotel worker called police.

“The man was certified dead at the scene and the woman was found in a semi-conscious state in their hotel room,” a police spokesman said.

The woman was taken to nearby Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment.

A police source said it seemed the pair had been having an affair, and had drunk alcohol and taken sleeping pills.

“A will by the woman was found,” he said. “We believe it was a suicide pact.”
