Woman ends stand-off with Hong Kong police after climbing onto 40th-floor ledge

A distressed woman with a baby in her arms was talked down from a 40th-floor window ledge on Thursday afternoon in northern Hong Kong, after a four-hour stand-off.
Emergency services were called to the Tin Fu Court housing estate on Tin Sau Road, Tin Shui Wai, just after midday, when the woman, with the baby, was found outside on the top floor of Sin Fu House.
A law enforcement source said that, when police and fire officers arrived, the woman was emotional and threatening to jump.
Soon after 4.30pm, the woman and the baby returned to the flat, according to police.
Police negotiators had been called in when she refused to go back inside, according to a force spokesman.
Firefighters had inflated an air cushion below the building, and rescue officers were on standby. The open area outside the building was cordoned off.
