Hong Kong man admits filming sexual assaults on schoolboy after police find 87 child porn videos on his computer
- Operation targeting child porn led police to an IP address linked to the warehouse assistant, 31, and video clips he saved for ‘personal viewing’
A Hong Kong man on Thursday admitted repeatedly filming himself sexually assaulting a schoolboy over a two-year period, after police found 87 videos of child pornography on his computer.
The High Court heard the videos were downloaded from internet file-sharing engine Foxy and included boys and girls aged between five and 15.
The case was uncovered during a police operation targeting child pornography, which led investigators to an IP address linked to warehouse assistant Ho Wing-hong, 31.
Further investigation revealed that Ho also made videos of a young boy performing oral sex on him on multiple occasions from December 2014 to September 2016, for “personal viewing”.
Acting senior public prosecutor Lenny Cheng said the boy met Ho at a ball game and Ho later offered the boy, aged only 12, money in exchange for sexual acts. The boy agreed, at times unwillingly, the court heard.
In an interview with police, the boy said he was paid between HK$100 and HK$400 depending on the sex act involved.
On Thursday, Ho pleaded guilty before Deputy High Court judge Amanda Woodcock to one count of possession of child pornography and to four others of making child pornography.
He also admitted five counts of indecent conduct with or towards a child under the age of 16, two counts of homosexual buggery with a man under the age of 16, and a charge of attempted homosexual buggery with a man aged under 16. Ho had no prior criminal record.
Mitigation and sentencing were adjourned to January 30 next year, pending Ho’s psychological assessment and the victim’s impact assessment.
The maximum penalty for homosexual buggery with a boy under 16 is life imprisonment.
Possession of child pornography carries a maximum sentence of a five-year jail term and a HK$1 million fine. Production of child porn has a maximum sentence of eight years’ jail and a HK$2 million fine.
