Senior manager suspected to have stolen HK$3 million while working at unit of Hong Kong’s Bamboos Health Care Holdings
- Operations manager thought to have funnelled cash to spouse and another family member, company says
- Firm did not say in stock market filing how long alleged theft had gone on for or when it took place
A senior manager is suspected to have stolen HK$3 million (US$384,600) from a private health care services provider, sparking a companywide audit of its spending, the firm has revealed.
The employee, who worked for a subsidiary of Bamboos Health Care Holdings, was believed to have funnelled money to their spouse and a family member and was dismissed over the incident, the parent company said in a Hong Kong stock exchange announcement.
Bamboos said it reported the suspected theft to police.
“The management of the company has recently discovered and reported to the board that the operations manager of a subsidiary of the company is suspected to have misappropriated certain funds of the subsidiaries of the company,” Bamboos said in the statement released on Monday night.
Hong Kong’s former health secretary, Dr Ko Wing-man, sits on the board of Bamboos, whose company provides staff to hospitals and nursing homes and also offers private nursing, as an independent non-executive director.
The company did not say how long the alleged theft had gone on for or when it took place.
