Police were searching for four thieves – three women and a man – after they stole about 30,000 yuan (US$4,430) from a man in a lift in a commercial and residential block in Hong Kong on Tuesday.

Officers were called to the 21-storey Ka On Building on Connaught Road West, Sheung Wan after the Chinese victim reported the theft shortly before 3.30pm.

“Initial investigation showed the incident happened after the four [non-Chinese] suspects followed the victim into a lift in the incident,” a police spokesman said.

He said the victim, who was unhurt, lost about 30,000 yuan in the theft.
