Hong Kong man, 50, denies stabbing stranger in abdomen and killing him over drunken row after consuming 10 cans of beer
- Court hears Lee Wai-man, 50, had tried to interrupt a conversation among group of strangers, bragging about his drug use and triad ties
An unemployed Hong Kong man on Tuesday denied in court that he had murdered a stranger in a shopping centre while he was drunk after consuming 10 cans of beer.
Lee Wai-man, 50, was accused of stabbing Ting Yun-kwong, 54, at a staircase of a shopping centre in Fu Heng Estate, Tai Po, in the small hours of December 9, 2016.
Ting was certified dead upon arrival at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po. An autopsy found he died of blood loss from a stab wound to his abdomen.
Prosecutor Terence Wai opened the case before a jury of six women and a man, after Lee pleaded not guilty to murder.
The High Court heard the two men were both residents of the public housing estate, but had first crossed paths just 3½ hours before the incident.
At the time Ting was discussing wedding plans with his son on the shopping centre’s podium. Both men drank beer and were later joined by friends, who brought more liquor.
