HK$4 million McLaren MP4-12C smashed up in Tin Shui Wai crash

  • McLaren driver sent to hospital with neck injury
  • Delivery man was unhurt

A HK$4 million sports car had its bonnet smashed up in a head-on collision with a delivery van in northern Hong Kong during Tuesday’s early hours.

The crash happened outside an ambulance depot in Tin Shui Wai at 12.25am.

Police said the grey and black McLaren MP4-12C was making a right turn from the southbound lane of Tin Yiu Road onto Tin Ho Road at the time of the incident.

It smashed head-on into the van, which was travelling along the northbound lane of Tin Yiu Road.

The 30-year-old driver of the McLaren, who was not the car’s registered owner, got a scratch on his neck and was taken to Tin Shui Wai Hospital. The driver of the delivery van, also 30, was unhurt.

A police spokesman said both drivers passed a breathalyser test and no one was arrested.

The British-made McLaren was bought for more than HK$4 million (US$510,000) in 2012, according to car registration records.
