Two men arrested in Yuen Long on suspicion of possessing seven petrol bombs were charged in court on Saturday.

A 35-year-old man from the mainland, surnamed Li, a 61-year-old Hongkonger, surnamed Ching, were charged with possession of instruments fit for an unlawful purpose at a court in Fanling.

Police officers arrested the men, along with another mainland man surnamed Li, during a patrol early on Thursday.

According to the police, an officer noticed a suspicious parked vehicle that sped away when the officer approached to search it. A cardboard box dropped from the vehicle as it escaped – and inside the box the police found seven petrol bombs.

The three men standing next to the vehicle were arrested. One has been granted bail.

The court said it would hear the case again on October 11.
