- Au Chi-wai, 49, will face four charges involving public servant accepting an advantage, misconduct in a public office and obtaining property by deception
- He is now out on bail and will appear in Eastern Court on Tuesday
Hong Kong’s anti-corruption agency on Friday charged a sergeant with bribery, misconduct in a public office and deception involving a total of HK$250,000 (US$32,000) for his misdeeds while supervising a squad of 30 trainee constables at the police college.
Au Chi-wai, 49, will face four charges – one of a public servant accepting an advantage, one of misconduct in a public office and two of obtaining property by deception – when he appears in Eastern Court next Tuesday for the case to be transferred to the District Court for plea, according to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).
Au was attached to the police college’s Drill and Musketry Training Unit. Between late 2012 and mid-2013, the college organised a residential training course for newly recruited trainee police constables.
The new recruits were divided into seven squads, each comprising 30 trainees.
Au was an assistant course instructor in one of the squads responsible for foot drill lessons, discipline and administration.
