Hong Kong police are hunting a gang of four men who smashed up a city minibus in a daylight attack on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 7.20am when the vehicle was being driven outside a public housing estate in Sam Shing Street, Tuen Mun.

A police source said at the time of the incident, the 56-year-old driver, who had worked overnight, was on the way to meet the driver of the morning shift after having breakfast nearby, and no passengers were on board.

“A silver car suddenly stopped in front of the minibus and then three masked men jumped out of the car and smashed the front windscreen and windows of the minibus with wooden bats,” the source said.

According to the source, the trio did not say a word or issue any warning to the driver before the attack, which lasted between 10 and 20 seconds.

A police spokesman said one of the culprits was a non-Chinese man. The suspects fled in their car, driven by a fourth man, before officers arrived. The minibus driver was unhurt.

Almost all of the minibus’ windows were shattered in the attack and glass fragments scattered on the road.
