Motorcyclist dies after collision with truck at Hong Kong roundabout
- Firefighters managed to extricate the man from under the truck and send him to hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter
- The truck driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death, and has since been released on bail
A motorcyclist died in hospital early Thursday morning after colliding with a truck near a container terminal in Hong Kong.
“The 53-year-old motorcyclist was trapped under the truck and was rescued by firemen,” police said in a statement.
He was taken unconscious to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was certified dead at 12.07am on Thursday.

A police spokeswoman said the 33-year-old truck driver was released on bail pending further investigation. He is required to report back to police next month. Officers from the New Territories South traffic unit are investigating the cause of the accident.
Separately, a male pedestrian was knocked unconscious by a taxi on Hennessy Road near the junction of Tin Lok Lane in Wan Chai around 10am on Thursday. The injured man, 60, was sent to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment. Police said the taxi driver, 55, passed a breathalyser test.
Police figures show 89 people died in 88 separate road traffic accidents across the city in the first 11 months of 2020. In 2019, 113 people died in 107 traffic accidents.
