Police are searching for a man in his 20s who is accused of indecently assaulting an eight-year-old girl in a Hong Kong public housing block.

Officers received a complaint of a Monday night attack on a housing block staircase in Wo Che Estate, off Yuen Wo Road in Sha Tin.

After receiving a report at about 10.10pm, officers scouted the estate and nearby areas, but no arrest was made.

The suspect is thought to be of thin build and aged between 20 and 30, according to the force.

“The man was wearing a purple surgical mask, a green jacket and black trousers at the time of the incident,” police said in a statement.

Officers from the Sha Tin criminal investigation unit are handling the case.

Police handled 682 reports of indecent assault in 2020, down 30.5 per cent from 982 the previous year.
