An 85-year-old disabled man died on Saturday morning after being assaulted with a pair of scissors at a Hong Kong care home, and police have arrested another 70-year-old resident on suspicion of murder.
Officers were called to Fu Hong Home for the Elderly on Tsing Chui Path in Tuen Mun, at 9pm on Friday, and found the bloodstained victim unconscious on his bed.
Assistant District Commander Henry Lam Hing-cheung said that security video showed a 70-year-old man entering the victim’s room twice, the last time 15 minutes before staff discovered the victim.
Officers found some scissors with blood on them, which they believe were used during the assault, in the home’s electric meter room.
The 85-year-old was certified dead on Saturday morning after being sent to Tuen Mun Hospital. A postmortem examination will be conducted to ascertain his cause of death.
Lam said the dead man, who had lived at the home since 2017, had disabilities and had to rely on others for help eating.
