A boy from one of Hong Kong’s most expensive private schools has been arrested for allegedly taking a female pupil to a campus toilet and sexually abusing her.

The student from the Independent Schools Foundation (ISF) Academy was said to have forced the girl to enter the lavatory before committing the offence, according to a police source.

A police spokesman said a report was received on May 14 of a girl being indecently assaulted in a Pok Fu Lam school.

An investigative team from the Western district later arrested the suspect on suspicion of indecent conduct towards a child aged under 16. He was later released on bail pending further investigation.

The academy told parents in a letter on Wednesday that it was deeply concerned about the incident, which had been reported to police.

Management added it was assisting police with their inquiries and was in close contact with those affected. The safety, health and well-being of its students were of the utmost importance, they added.

The Education Bureau said it had been in contact with the school after it was notified of the incident. The school’s crisis management team had been activated.

The school said in a separate statement on Wednesday that it would not comment on the incident being handled by police, adding it would provide appropriate assistance to the affected families.

The private independent school on Kong Sin Wan Road, Pok Fu Lam, was established in 2003 and has more than 2,000 pupils in years running from foundation to grade 12. Its 2020-21 school fees range from HK$197,920 (US$25,504) to HK$249,970 (US$32,200).
