China’s state media slams fugitive ex-Hong Kong lawmaker Nathan Law ahead of expected address at US ‘Summit for Democracy’
- Xinhua accuses Nathan Law of having ‘forgotten his roots’ and of betraying the country and Hong Kong
- Media outlets also condemn US President Joe Biden’s summit, calling it a tool for anti-China forces in West to meddle in domestic affairs but bid will be doomed to fail

The media outlets also condemned the coming summit, calling it a tool for anti-China forces in the West to meddle in domestic affairs but their bid would be doomed to fail. Law is expected to give a brief address during an “intersession remarks” section around 7.30am (US Eastern time) on Friday.
A Xinhua commentary accused the former lawmaker of having “forgotten his roots” and of betraying the country and Hong Kong. It said he would eventually “eat the bitter fruits” of his acts and end up being “crucified on the pillar of historical shame for betraying the country and the Chinese people”.

But the West’s attempts were like a “mantis trying to stop a chariot”, it added.
“Against the backdrop of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, ‘one country, two systems’ is steadily advancing,” the commentary said, referring to the policy under which Hong Kong is governed.
“Whatever the means or tricks may be, any plot to make use of Hong Kong to suppress China, or to make use of Hong Kong to disrupt China, will be doomed to fail.”
